What are Divisions of General Practice?
General Practitioners (GPs) are busy people. They are there to provide you with advice when you are ill and also help to maintain your health.
Have you ever wondered how local GPs keep up to date with new information? Where they access support for their practice? How they communicate with each other or how they represent themselves on issues that influence their work?
Divisions provide a link between GPs and other health professionals and services, eg. hospitals, community health centres, and allied health professionals.
This is the role of a Division of General Practice.
Divisions of General Practice were set up to provide a voice and an identity for local GPs. They provide support for GPs and allow GPs to band together on issues rather than work alone. They are able to identify local community health needs and support GPs to address these needs.
About the Nepean Division of General Practice
The Nepean Division of General Practice (NDGP) coordinates programs and whole of practice services to assist GPs in providing the best care to their patients for the benefit of the health and wellbeing of the community.
The Nepean Division of General Practice has over 100 GP members. Each year, members vote for GPs to represent them on the Board of Directors. There are 6 Directors on the Board.
Applying good governance principles, the Board sets the policy and direction of the Nepean Division.
In addition there is close co-operation with adjacent Divisions in the Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury areas, as well as a growing working relationship with the new Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (formerly the Sydney West Area Health Service).
